Bio: Yaen Chen is currently a rising third-year undergraduate student majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in Data Science at Northeastern University. Since joining the Music, Imaging, and Neural Dynamics Lab (MIND Lab) led by Dr. Psyche Loui in her first year, Yaen has been interested in learning about how musical training can affect the brain cognitively and neurophysiologically in preadolescents. Yaen plans to work towards a career in neuroscience research and will be pursuing a master’s in Bioinformatics at Northeastern University after her undergraduate degree. In her free time, Yaen enjoys playing the piano and dancing with Kinematix Dance Troupe.

Bio: Dr. Todd Van Kekerix currently serves as a lecturer of piano pedagogy, coordinator of class piano and faculty affiliate for the Community Arts Academy at the Moores School of Music. He recently completed a Doctor of Music in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. Active as a performer and clinician, Van Kekerix has given workshops and recitals throughout the United States and China. Van Kekerix’s research includes pop music pedagogy, historical piano pedagogy, teaching piano in groups, and effective practice habit development.
His former faculty positions include director of enrichment activities at the New School for Music Study in Kingston, NJ and adjunct professor of piano at Kean University in Union, NJ. His degrees include an artist’s certificate and master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and a bachelor’s degree from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. His past teachers include Jane Magrath, Barbara Fast, Jeongwan Ham, Samuel Holland, Alfred Mouledous, Alessio Bax and Rick Andrews. Previously, he has been a faculty member at the Practical Piano Pedagogy Seminar summer series in Kingston, NJ and an instructor at the SMU Institute for Young Pianists in Dallas, Texas. He has also presented workshops at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy and has been published in Clavier Companion magazine.

Bio: Dr. Frances le Roux is a practicing physiotherapist in Fish Hoek, Cape Town
South Africa for the past 31 years. She uses music in her private practice as
a functional intervention during physiotherapy treatments. Dr. le Roux is a
honorary member of both the IAMM and ISMM. She has a Master’s degree
on the “Effect of Music on Pain, and in 2006 completed her doctoral studies
on “The Effect of Music on the Immune System and Emotions during
Physiotherapy treatment of lung conditions”. Dr. le Roux has written
numerous articles for journals and regularly attends the International Music
Medicine Conferences.
